Nakasiba Goretty is quiet and shy, with a nice smile. She speaks little English, and her Luganda is rhythmic and lilting. Gorrety is 32, and has three children, 13, 10 and 5, and her brother and his child also live with her. They all squeeze into a one-room house, but that will change when she moves into her BeadforLife Village house.

For two years, Gorrety saved money from bead sales for her house, and at the same time was able to send her children to school. She can't wait to have her own garden to dig cassava, and grow cabbage and greens
