Namuka, Jane is a very good beader and a lovely proud woman. BeadforLife initially enrolled Jane’s HIV+ daughter Sofia in the group. Sofia contracted AIDS while caring for her sister who was suffering from the disease. While living with her sister, the sister’s husband forced Sofia to have sex with him and passed the disease to her as well. Sofia fought to survive for many weeks, but finally died of AIDS, the second child Jane lost to AIDS, spread by the same man.

Jane had been learning to make beads so she could teach Sofia, and BeadforLife asked her to remain in the group. Sofia left behind a seven year old daughter, who is being sponsored for school through BeadforLife. Jane cares for her blind husband, four other children, and her granddaughter and is the only income earner in the home
