Akongo, Judith
, 28 is a widow who lives alone with two kittens. A new shiny radio sits proudly on the table in her one room house, a radio that she bought with the money she earned from selling beads. She learned to make beads in the classes that BeadforLife sponsored this summer and she has learned fast!
She is particularly good at color combining and making triple strand necklaces that hang so beautifully.

Judith moved to the Acholi Quarter from northern Uganda. Her village was dangerously situated between the rebel forces called the Lords Resistance Army, and the warriors of the Karamajong. One night the Karamajong came and stole the goats that she and her husband owned. Her husband pursued the thieves and was killed for his attempts to retake the goats. Leaving her two children in the village with her mother

Judith came to Kampala hoping to find work. She sees her children once a year when she returns to the village. Judith sends most of her bead money home to her mother to support her children.
