Ithungu Joyce, 29, a soft spoken lady, lives with her friend in one rented room in a Kampala suburb called Kalerwe.

Joyce left her village in Kasese in western Uganda three years ago when her husband died of HIV/AIDS. Her husband's relatives took away everything they owned so she came to Kampala to trade and look for money to take care of her three children, Rogers, 16; Godwin, 13; and Julius, 9. Unfortunately, she still cannot afford to take care of them so she sent them to a friend as she takes care of her health, since she is also HIV positive.

Joyce's dream is to roll enough beads to save some money to build her own house. Where she now lives, she is discriminated against because of her HIV status.
