BeadforLife Volunteer Coordinator, Korri Roach, met with Jade and asked her the following questions:
Where are you from?
I just moved to Boulder in August after spending a few years in Austin, Texas. I have moved around quite a bit in my life, but I consider Washington state to be “home” to me.
What are some of your hobbies, likes, dislikes, interests, passions, etc.?
I love to read and write the most. I also enjoy cooking and baking (particularly vegan dishes), yoga, dancing, and running. I’ve recently taught myself to knit, and I am quite anxious to finish my first scarf. My passions lay in being creative and impactful simultaneously. I want to help cultivate as much positive change in the world as possible through writing, art, education, and working with accountable and conscientious people and non-profit organizations.
How did you come to be a volunteer for BeadforLife?
My mom told me about BeadforLife just before I moved to Boulder. After researching the organization, I knew I wanted to be involved once I got here.
How long have you been a volunteer with BeadforLife?
Since this past fall.
How has being a volunteer at BeadforLife changed your life?
So far, it has introduced me to some wonderful and like-minded people. I find myself completely enamoured with the program, and I am constantly telling my friends and family about it. I look forward to all that BeadforLife will bring into my life!
What brings you the most joy in your life?
Learning, laughing, and loving.
If you could meet any one person, who would it be and why?
I would love to meet Subcomandante Marcos of the Zapatista movement in Mexico. He is a highly educated person who gave up the life he knew to help lead a social movement for the rights of the poor, indigenous people of Chiapas. His approach to social unrest is poetic, peaceful, and quite intriguing. I would love to talk to him about non-violent approaches to social revolution and human rights, and how one could utilize the opportunities they’ve had in life to help the overlooked people of this planet. I also think he is a bit dreamy…
