Sponsored by Dave Ensign & Cisco Systems Inc. Martha Kabasiita is a beautiful 18 year old woman who has suffered from HIV/AIDS since birth. She lost her mother in 2004 and has a good relationship with her father who is unemployed. Her father however, has another family with older children and he does not want Martha to be known to them. She currently
lives with her maternal aunt who takes care of her and her three siblings
from other relationships. Her aunt cannot afford to send any of them to
school. Martha is
currently participating in a Vocational Training course in hairdressing.
She hopes to start up her own hairdressing salon after she graduates.
This will help her to improve her family's living conditions and maybe
even send her siblings back to school. In her free time Martha loves to
listen to music and read novels. |

This is an
example of the inspiring stories of how past and current partnerships
between sponsors and students are allowing young Ugandans to seize a better
future and filling the hearts and imaginations of North Americans. These
students have worked hard and we have seen their confidence and pride
grow each month. BeadforLife strives hard to support students not only
with the vocational training, but also with 'wrap-around' skills like
resume writing, interviewing, networking, and work ethic. We do this in
our monthly Friday Afternoon Club, as well as in one-on-one counseling
with students. |
