We are pleased to announce that BeadforLife will be organizing and leading our next trip to Uganda to help build homes and infrastructure in the BeadforLife Village ! The village is located on 18 acres of land outside of Kampala and BeadforLife, in collaboration with Habitat for Humanity, is enabling over 100 families to build their own homes and eventually own the land. For more on this project, visit our website. In addition to building, trip participants will spend time with the women beaders at a bead sale, engage with the local community and explore majestic Murchison Falls National Park.

Details:

This is not a luxury trip, so be prepared to work hard, laugh hard and learn! We will have modest accommodations, eat local food and have opportunities to see the diverse lifestyles of the Ugandan people. Evenings will be a time to debrief about our experience, share stories, and reflect. Come prepared for a group experience—including, living, eating and working with the other trip members. Flexibility is a must as we interact with the Ugandan culture and embrace a slower pace, a new language and the unexpected joys of traveling in another country!

The cost is $2500, not including airfare. Cost will include meals in Uganda , ground transportation, cultural activities, orientation materials, and a $300 donation to BeadforLife. Price does not include airfare to and from Uganda , required travel insurance (which will cost approximately $100), or personal shopping. Scholarships are available to those in financial need. Each trip will have about 16 people and we expect them to fill quickly so sign up soon. Single rooms are available for an additional cost.

Dates:

Leave North America Feb. 28th, arrive in Uganda Feb 29th

Leave Uganda March 14th, arrive back in North America March 15th.

Itinerary:

The itinerary for each trip is dependent upon the stage of house building we are in when the group arrives, and won’t be specifically determined until closer to the trip. However, during each trip, participants will have a chance to do the following:

Ø Between 5 – 8 days actually working with the members of BeadforLife to build homes, gardens, irrigation, shelters and other aspects of the village.

Ø Three nights at Murchison Falls National Park , an incredible game park with wonderful animals

Ø The opportunity to participate in at least one BeadforLife sale and perhaps to visit other community development projects.

Ø Lots of fun!
