When BeadforLife
conducted a baseline survey, the thing the beaders dreamed of most (and
doubted they would ever have) was a home of their own. Now many of them have their own homes in Friendship Village, which is made up of individuals from different tribes and religions. Five to eight houses are built at a time with neighbor helping neighbor
on each house. Each beader saves money for a down
payment from bead sale proceeds. She can pay her mortgage with beads. Then the families choose a house design
to suit their needs.
