Impoverished people worldwide are often the victims of poor health. Poverty can force people to live with poor sanitary conditions, unsafe drinking water and in highly populated areas. Malnutrition and lack of access to preventative health care make impoverished people, especially children, much more prone to sickness and often death.
BeadforLife works with women who have had malaria at least once in the past year and many who are HIV+. Several members have sadly lost children to AIDS while many others have had tuberculosis, which is still common in the developing world. |

BeadforLife offers our members the following health services:
1. Malaria Testing and Treatment Vouchers - Because of the high rate of malaria among our members and their families, BeadforLife has partnered with several local health clinics to make malaria testing and treatment available. Our members can trade beads for malaria vouchers whenever they need them.
2. HIV Testing for Children – Early diagnosis of HIV in children is important. BeadforLife arranges for free HIV testing for any child of any of our members. Click here to find out how BeadforLife provided free HIV testing for children.
3. Family Planning Vouchers - Members who are interested in family planning services can trade beads for vouchers which can be redeemed at a Family Planning Clinic. Since large families can hinder the chances of overcoming poverty, many of our members take advantage of this opportunity.
4. Health Education – BeadforLife holds sessions covering a variety of health related topics including: childhood illness, prevention of diarrhea diseases, caring for HIV+ children, malaria prevention and care and basic household first aid. Family planning sessions are also offered and include husbands or partners. A peer-educator training who specializes in HIV issues instructs group members to act as resources to people in their communities.
5. Health Products Distribution – In keeping with our philosophy, BeadforLife subsidizes half the cost of these items, and then accepts beads and shea nuts as payment for the balance of the cost. BeadforLife distributes products including:
- Condoms – To prevent unwanted pregnancy and the spread of HIV, we make condoms available to our members.
- Reading glasses – Currently, the glasses are donated to BeadforLife by Eyes on Africa.
Make a Donation. BeadforLife is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (tax ID: 20-1683139). Donations to BeadforLife go directly towards eradicating poverty in Uganda and educating people in the developed world about poverty eradication.
In Uganda, BeadforLife reinvests its net proceeds in community development work that fights extreme poverty including: projects in health care, vocational training for out-of-school youth, affordable housing and entrepreneurial skills development. In the developed world, we sell our products reinvesting in education programs to provide opportunities for people to learn about and get involved in fighting extreme poverty. Donations are tax deductible to the full extent of the law.
